Uganda Government Launches A National Budget Book To Be Accessed By The Disabled

The Government of the Republic of Uganda has launched a book and audio recordings that will help the blind and visually impaired people to read and understand the contents of the outgoing 2023/2024 national budget.

The initiative is being led by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in partnership with UNICEF, Uganda Debt Network, the Uganda National Association of the Blind and the Uganda National Association of the Deaf.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Finance in his message read out by Mwanja Paul acting Head of Budget review committee, Policy and Evaluation, said it is everyone’s right, to know about the national budget, under the Access to Information Act.

Brenda Hasarama from the Uganda National Association of the blind, said they were very happy that the government remembered them, because they had been left behind.

Uganda Debt Network President Tumwebaze Patrick, said it was unfortunate that these people had been left behind.
