Uganda-Tanzania oil symposium highlights sustainable regional partnerships – The East Observer

In a demonstration of diplomatic unity and forward-thinking strategy, the 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Oil and Gas Symposium took place on April 18, 2024, highlighting the importance of sustainable partnerships and regional cooperation.

Organized by the Uganda High Commission in Dar-Es-Salaam, this symposium, held alongside the 9th Oil and Gas Symposium at the Kampala Serena Hotel & Conference Centre, showcased the strong commitment of both countries to leveraging their oil and gas resources for transformation.

Themed “Establishing linkages for sustainable partnerships,” the symposium convened high-ranking government officials and industry leaders to discuss the crucial role of infrastructure projects like the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) in maximizing Uganda’s oil and gas potential.

Addressing the audience, Ambassador Col (Retired) Fred Mwesigye emphasized the importance of Economic and Commercial Diplomacy in advancing the EACOP project, portraying it not just as a means for oil transportation but as a symbol of unity and shared prosperity for the East African Community.

Ambassador Richard Kabonero, representing the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, echoed these sentiments, stressing the significance of sustainable partnerships in meeting global energy needs and promoting regional integration.

He urged stakeholders to collaborate, exchange insights, and adopt a long-term outlook to align the sector with regional objectives of economic unity and sustainable progress.

The symposium served as a crucial platform for assessing progress in the oil and gas sector, exploring opportunities for cross-border initiatives, and strengthening collaboration between Uganda and Tanzania.

With a strong call for unity and collaboration, the symposium illuminated a path towards a more cohesive and prosperous future for the East African region.
