The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has announced its plan to dispatch a team of four boxers to participate in the Paris Olympic Games qualifier, scheduled to take place from February 29th to March 12th in Busto Arsizio, Italy. Moses Muhangi, President of the Boxing Federation, revealed this decision during a recent interview with Xinhua, highlighting Uganda’s determination to secure qualification slots for the prestigious Olympic Games.

Despite facing disappointment at the Africa Olympic qualifier held in Senegal last year, where Uganda failed to secure a single boxer for the Olympics, Muhangi expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities. He emphasized their resolve to overcome challenges and strive for improvement in the upcoming qualifier event in Italy.

Acknowledging the intense competition that lies ahead, Muhangi urged observers not to underestimate Uganda’s boxing contingent. He emphasized the global caliber of opponents that Ugandan boxers will face during the qualifier, emphasizing the need for strategic preparation and unwavering determination.

Looking ahead to the 2024 Summer Olympics scheduled to be held in Paris from July 26th to August 11th, the Ugandan boxing team is keen to secure their participation. Joshua Tukamuhebwa, the designated captain of the team and a light welterweight boxer, expressed his personal determination to secure qualification. Recalling his near-miss at the qualification stage during the Africa Olympic qualifier in Senegal last year, Tukamuhebwa affirmed his commitment to performing at his best to secure a coveted spot at the Olympics.
