Ugandan amateur golfers who participated in this year’s DP World Tour Magical Kenya Open (MKO) Pro-Am tournament returned from Nairobi enriched with valuable lessons and experiences. The opportunity, extended to nine amateurs and select customers of Absa Bank, provided a unique chance to engage in the prestigious precursor event to the DP World Tour.

The winning amateurs, including Alex Mango, Bob Matsiko, Emma Tayebwa, Michael Koima Musiime, Paul Habyarimana, Wendy Angudeyo, Ivan Arinaitwe, Patricia Mbabazi, and Michael Tumusiime, were afforded an all-expenses-paid trip to Kenya. Their selection was based on their outstanding performance in the Absa-sponsored Pro-Am tournament preceding the Uganda Open.

Throughout their stay in Nairobi, the Ugandan contingent received five-star treatment at the Kempinski Villa Rosa Hotel, courtesy of Absa. Additionally, they had the opportunity to test their skills at the renowned Karen Golf Course, further enhancing their exposure to international golfing standards.

Reflecting on their experience, Michael Koima Musiime highlighted the invaluable insights gained from playing alongside professionals. Observing the approach, technique, and decision-making of seasoned players provided a unique learning opportunity, enriching their understanding of the game.

Absa Bank’s sponsorship of the MKO Pro-Am garnered praise from participants, who emphasized the significance of such initiatives in promoting Ugandan golf on the international stage. The exposure to world-class competition and interaction with professionals elevated the aspirations and skills of Ugandan amateurs.

Looking ahead, Absa Bank Managing Director Mumba Kalifungwa reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Ugandan golf.
