A group of talented teenagers from Uganda’s Young Engineers program has earned a prestigious spot at the 2024 Vex Robotics World Championship in the United States for the second consecutive year.
Comprising eight teens, their mentors, and accompanying parents, the team is poised to represent Uganda on the global stage from April 25th to May 8th, 2024.
Young Engineers Uganda, part of the African School of Innovations Science and Technology (ASIST) Ltd, founded by journalist Arinaitwe Rugyendo, focuses on nurturing the next generation of Ugandan scientists, innovators, and problem solvers through LEGO and Robotics after-school programs.
Since its inception in 2026, the program has impacted over 2000 children in Kampala and beyond, providing hands-on training in STEM subjects, preparing them for the modern workforce.
The Vex Robotics World Championship, hosting over 2,200 teams from 50+ countries in Dallas, Texas, promises to showcase innovation and talent in robotics.
CEO of the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, Mr. Dan Mantz, expressed excitement about Team Uganda’s participation, emphasizing the championship’s role in promoting STEM education and career opportunities.
Team Uganda’s journey follows their remarkable performance at the Pan African Robotics Competitions (PARC 2022) in Dakar, Senegal, where they secured a bronze medal.
Led by Ms. Maureen Karamagi, CEO of Young Engineers Uganda, the team aims to inspire future problem solvers and innovators, while also seeking opportunities for collaboration and learning at the championship.
