BUL 3-0 Wakiso Giants
Express 1-0 URA

Alex Kitata bagged a brace and Tom Ikara kept a clean-sheet as BUL beat Wakiso Giants 3-0 at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru to go second on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) table on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

The Eastern Giants’ 12th win in 23 games now takes them to 43 points, just one below leaders Kitara (44), also two and three points above Vipers (41), SC Villa (40) and NEC (40) in third, forth and fifth positions respectively.

At Njeru, Jeromy Kirya put BUL ahead in the 25th minute of the game, and the Eastern Giants held onto the 1-0 lead until the end of the first half. That was his second in the league so far for BUL, since scoring one against Bright Stars.

Alex Kitata doubled BUL’s lead in the 55th minute, scoring his nineth of the season after a nine-match goal drought. The striker hadn’t found the back of the net since scoring the only goal as BUL defeated Busoga 1-0 in the Jinja derby back in December last year.

In the 73rd minute, Kitata scored again to make it three for BUL to seal the 3-0 win at home, also taking his season’s goal tally to ten, same as Maroons’ Fred Amaku. Only Nelson Ssenkatuuka (13), Muhammad Shaban (12) and Dennis Omedi (11) plus Isaac Wagoina (11) have scored more.

Offcourse, Kitata loves scoring against Wakiso Giants, the BUL topscorer also got one of the goals against the Purple Sharks as the Jinja-based side won 3-0 away at Wakisha Grounds in the reverse fixture of Saturday’s tie.

Goalkeeper Tom Ikara didn’t let in any goal, to keep his nineth clean-sheet of the season, going joint-top on the list of most clean-sheets, alongside Maroons’ Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

The Eastern Giants still have a realistic chance at clinching the UPL title for their first time ever – they have registered 12 wins to their name, plus seven draws and just four losses so far this campaign.
