Bwindi access road cut off at river Ruhezanyinda due to flooding

This is to report that the main tourism access road heading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is currently in a poor state and impassable at River Ruhezanyinda.

Current situation:

Heavy rains have caused River Ruhezanyinda to flood and burst its banks.
The road/bridge is submerged, completely blocking vehicle access to Bwindi from the Kisoro side.

Tourists and community members are currently being physically carried across the river by local porters to continue their journeys.

Impact:
Tourists are stranded/delayed, damaging Uganda’s tourism reputation.
Community members cannot access markets.
Flooding is caused by heavy rains
Swamp reclamation around this river and silting from poor farming methods
