Final Four Set as USSSA Ball Games II Futsal Heads Into Knockout Stage

By George Katongole
The race for the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II boys’ futsal title has reached its decisive stage, with St. Francis Secondary School Busunju, Kyaddondo Secondary School, Light Secondary School Soroti, and Kakungulu Memorial School securing places in Wednesday’s semi-finals.
Now in only its second edition after debuting at last year’s championship in Tororo, the futsal competition has continued to grow in popularity, delivering entertaining matches, plenty of goals, and showcasing some of Uganda’s brightest young talent.
This year’s tournament is also guaranteed to produce a new champion after inaugural winners Mukono Kings opted not to defend their title.
Kakungulu Seal Final Semi-final Spot
Kakungulu Memorial School booked the final semi-final berth with an emphatic 7-2 victory over St. Mark College Namagoma.
The Kampala-based side dominated the opening half with relentless attacking football, leaving St. Mark struggling to cope. Although Namagoma improved after the break, Kakungulu had already done enough to seal qualification.
Ibrahim Azabo stole the show with a superb hat-trick, while Ronnie Asiimwe, Derrick Kuloba, Hassan Dairo, and Abdurahman Sempa each added a goal. Mark Emuli and James Sserubiri scored the consolation goals for St. Mark.
The victory saw Kakungulu finish second in Group A, behind unbeaten St. Francis Secondary School Busunju.
Light SS Soroti Top Group B
In Group B, tournament favourites Light Secondary School Soroti played out a 1-1 draw with Kyaddondo Secondary School to finish top of the standings.
Top scorer Simon Peter Adupa continued his impressive tournament by giving Light SS the lead before Junior Jude Kakooza equalised for Kyaddondo, ensuring both schools progressed to the semi-finals.
Girls’ Title Race Remains Open
Unlike the boys’ competition, the girls’ champion will be determined through a round-robin format, with Tuesday’s results keeping the race wide open.
Masheruka Girls Secondary School boosted their title hopes after edging Kakungulu Memorial School 1-0.
Despite Kakungulu dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities, they were punished late in the match when Daisy Ampaire scored the decisive goal.
In another exciting contest, St. Francis Secondary School Busunju staged one of the tournament’s biggest comebacks to defeat Seroma Christian High School 3-2.
Seroma appeared destined for victory after goals from Anita Namubiru and Trashillah Kabalungu handed them a comfortable lead. However, Sharon Wambeewo inspired a remarkable turnaround with a brace before an own goal completed Busunju’s comeback.
Mouth-Watering Semi-finals Await
Attention now shifts to Wednesday’s knockout stage, where two highly anticipated semi-final clashes promise exciting futsal action.
Unbeaten St. Francis Secondary School Busunju will face Kyaddondo Secondary School in the first semi-final, while Light Secondary School Soroti take on an in-form Kakungulu Memorial School in the second encounter.
With a place in Thursday’s final at stake, all four schools will be aiming to become only the second champions in the history of the USSSA Ball Games II boys’ futsal competition.
