Hon Kwizera addressing locals in his constituency
KISORO UGANDA: Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament, Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, has called upon former political aspirants who were unsuccessful in the recent elections to put aside political differences and join hands in advancing development and improving service delivery across the constituency during the 2026–2031 term.
Kwizera made the remarks ahead of the official implementation of the 2026/2027 national budget, which begins on July 1. He emphasized that the election period is over and that leaders should now focus on addressing the needs of the people through unity, cooperation, and development-oriented initiatives.
Speaking to the locals in the constituency, the legislator noted that meaningful development can only be achieved when both elected leaders and former contenders work together toward common goals. He said residents expect improved services and tangible development projects rather than continued political rivalries.
Kwizera specifically appealed to his former parliamentary competitors, including Asgario Turyagyenda and Owebeyi James, to contribute their ideas and expertise toward the transformation of Bukimbiri. He urged them to support ongoing development efforts and reserve political competition for the next election cycle in 2031.
Independent candidate Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu won the Bukimbiri parliamentary seat in the 2026 General Elections, defeating National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Asgario Turyagyenda. Official results showed Kwizera polling 14,761 votes against Turyagyenda’s 12,553 votes, while Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate James Owebeyi garnered 102 votes.
Kwizera said the period of political contestation, swearing-in ceremonies, and budget reading has passed, and that leaders should now focus on implementing the budget and delivering services to the people. He added that Turyagyenda and Owebeyi should work with him as the elected leader of Bukimbiri to advance development and reserve political competition for 2031 should they wish to contest again.
According to Kwizera, every leader, regardless of the outcome of the elections, has a responsibility to contribute to the welfare of the people and the progress of the constituency.
