Your Excellency,
One of the great temptations in life, even for great men like you, is to stop seeing the contribution of others. We easily see the wrong others do. We rarely see their good and their sacrifices. Yet we clearly see our own sacrifices, our own battles, and our own righteousness.
No man in Israel’s history had done what Elijah did. He shut the sky. He called fire. He shifted a nation in 24 hours. Centuries later they still asked, “Are you Elijah?” John 1:21
Your Excellency, in your own ways you have shut skies and called fire. You led Uganda through wars, rebellion, epidemics, and economic storms. You stood when others fled. Uganda is standing because of battles you fought.
But just like Elijah, success carries a temptation — to believe you are the only one left.
Elijah forgot the 100 prophets Obadiah hid. 1 Kings 18:13 He told God, “I, even I only, am left.” 1 Kings 19:14 Yet God said, “I have seven thousand who have not bowed to Baal.” 1 Kings 19:18
Mzee, I think I see that temptation in some of your speeches. I hear the battles you won. I rarely hear the 7,000 — teachers without chalk, nurses without gloves, soldiers in the bush, farmers in drought. They hold Uganda together.
Elijah’s greatness became his blindness. At his peak he sat in depression asking God to take his life. 1 Kings 19:4 Why? He thought he was alone.
God’s answer was a team: “Anoint Hazael… Jehu… and Elisha.” 1 Kings 19:15-16
Please see the 7,000 before you believe you are alone.
Please raise Elisha before depression convinces you that you are.
Your legacy will be saved when you trust the team God already reserved for Uganda.
