Nameere Launches 69km RUDSEC Community Roads in Acholi

By Kyeyune Ali
The Minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, has officially launched the construction of more than 69 kilometres of community access roads under the Rural Development and Food Security (RUDSEC) Project in the Acholi Sub-region.
The launch brought together the area Member of Parliament, political and technical leaders from Agago, Lamwo and Pader districts, officials from the Ministry of Local Government, development partners, contractors and members of the local community.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nameere said the RUDSEC Project, jointly funded by the Government of Uganda and the German Government through KfW Development Bank, is aimed at improving rural connectivity, reducing transport costs, minimizing post-harvest losses and linking farmers to markets in support of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The road works will cover four sections: Kalongo–Lomoi Road Section A (15km) and Section B (14.9km) in Agago District, Corner Ogwec–Tenten Road (21.6km) in Lamwo District, and Puranga–Ogonyo–Achola Stream Road (18km) in Pader District.
Hon. Nameere directed contractors to deliver quality, climate-resilient roads, warning that government will not tolerate delays, shoddy work or corruption during project implementation.
She also pledged the Ministry’s full political support to ensure the successful delivery of the project, noting that she will work closely with the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, and the Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya, to strengthen supervision and ensure timely completion of the works.
The minister tasked Resident District Commissioners, District Chairpersons and Chief Administrative Officers in the beneficiary districts to provide strict oversight through regular site inspections to guarantee value for money.
She further urged communities to safeguard construction equipment and completed infrastructure from vandalism, cooperate with contractors and take advantage of employment opportunities that will arise during the construction phase.
Hon. Nameere encouraged residents to increase agricultural production and strengthen their savings groups so they can fully benefit from improved market access once the roads are completed.
She commended the German Government and KfW Development Bank for their continued partnership with the Ministry of Local Government, saying the collaboration is contributing to sustainable economic growth and improved livelihoods in Northern Uganda.
