The National water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has launched its strategic plan 2025–2030, outlining an ambitious roadmap aimed at expanding access to safe and reliable water services across Uganda.
Under the five-year strategy, NWSC targets increasing the population served from 19.5 million to 26.2 million people by 2030, while expanding water connections to 1.294 million to bring clean and dependable water services closer to households, businesses, and communities nationwide.
The Strategic Plan also prioritises improving operational efficiency through the reduction of Non-Revenue Water from 34 per cent to 28 per cent in a bid to minimise water losses, enhance service reliability and improve financial sustainability.
In addition, the Plan incorporates climate resilience and environmental protection measures aimed at safeguarding water sources and strengthening infrastructure against the impacts of climate change.
NWSC revealed that implementation of the Strategic Plan will require approximately Shs 6.79 trillion, mobilised through internal resources, Government support, and development partners to accelerate infrastructure expansion, improve public health, create employment opportunities, and support Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
The Corporation called upon stakeholders, development partners, local leaders, and communities to support the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan in pursuit of universal access to safe water and improved sanitation services.
