All the Sports disciplines showcased their prowess at the African Games, earning well-deserved recognition.
Lydia Namabiro emerged as the standout player in Rugby as her contributions were pivotal as the Lady Rugby Cranes Sevens secured an impressive fourth-place finish in the HSBC Challengers Series in Montevideo.
Namabiro’s exceptional performance, marked by four tries, propelled her team to success. She takes the award ahead of Norbert Okeny and Peace Lekuru.
Additionally, her debut appearance in the games in Accra, Ghana, saw Uganda clinch gold, with Namabiro scoring six tries and earning the title of Woman of the Tournament.
Husina Kobugabe was named the best in badminton after securing Uganda’s only gold in the Africa Games.
Teaming up with Gladys Mbabazi, they triumphed over Algeria’s duo in the women’s doubles.
Despite falling short in the Singles final against South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz, Kobugabe’s contribution to Uganda’s success was undeniable.
She was nominated alongside Gladys Mbabazi and Fadilah Shamika.
In Football, the gong went to Hakim Mutebi, beating Hippos teammate Usama Arafat and Queen Cranes (Uganda U20 Women) star Catherine Nagadya.
He was outstanding in Ghana, including scoring a crucial a goal in a comeback against Congo.
Despite falling short in the final against Ghana, Mutebi’s impactful performance earned him recognition as the month’s top footballer.
Davis Niyoyita was named the best in Weightlifting after winning three medals for Uganda at the Games.
Hailing from Kakungulu Memorial School Kibuli, Niyoyita clinched three medals for Uganda, including two silvers and a bronze.
