UCU Canons squeezed past JT Jaguars in a thrilling National Basketball League game played on Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The Canons, who came into the game on the back of a defeat against KIU Titans on Friday, won 59-56 for their eighth win in 13 games this season.
Ibanda Lwabaga led with 21 points, Joel Kayiira had a double double of 10 points and 18 rebounds while Jerry Kayanga added 13 points for the Canons.
George Agasi had a double double of 17 points and 16 rebounds but his effort was in vain for the Jaguars
The Jaguars led by five points at halftime but UCU fought back to take a two-point lead going into the last quarter.
But UCU failed to create clear day light as JT Jaguars remained close in a game that exchanged the lead a couple of times from thereafter.
The game saw intense exchanges of lead, with Fadhil Chuma’s clutch jumper tying the score at 51-51 with 35 seconds remaining.
However, it was Lwabaga Ibanda’s pivotal six points in the closing moments that secured the win for UCU despite Coach Nicholas Natuhereza’s ejection.
JT Jaguars felt they could have done better, as the side fluffed a potential game winning play. It’s the sixth loss in 12 games for a newcomer coached by Sudi Ulanga.
