Vipers secured a 2-1 victory against UPDF FC in a Uganda Premier League match under the Kitende floodlights.

Allan Okello and Eric Kambale netted for the Venoms, while Bright Vuni’s goal served as a consolation for the Visitors.

This win propels Vipers to second place with 41 points, trailing leaders Kitara by three points, although Kitara has played two more games.

Okello, picked by Kambale on the right, found the net with a left-footed strike that eluded UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama after 10 minutes.

Kambale doubled the lead in the 54th minute from a tight angle, after racing on Moses Waiswa’s through pass.

UPDF clawed one back in the 71st minute through Vuni, who capitalized on a rebound from point blank range after his initial header was saved.

The absence of head coach Livingstone Mbabazi once again continued to fuel exit rumors, but Vipers’ victory solidifies their position as contenders to retain the league title.

Their next challenge awaits away against SC Villa on Tuesday, with a potential win putting them level on points with Kitara.

Meanwhile, UPDF remains second from the bottom following their first defeat in three matches.
