Way Of The Cross 2024: Christians Accross Uganda Urged To Forgive And Reconcile

The Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) has urged Ugandans to promote peace and communication in religious and political disputes. In their way of the cross message, they urged Ugandans to follow Christ’s command of prayer, forgiveness and reconciliation their fellows.

The message was read by the Chairman of the Association and Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. C.J. Joseph Anthony Zziwa, The Most Rev Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu and the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in Uganda His Eminence Joronymous Muzeeyi.

They urged the Ugandan government to monitor the use of firearms in the country which they said are many in the wrong hands, used to kill Ugandans, and urged the Criminal Investigation Department and Police to work tirelessly to identify the killers and prosecute them.

They said many guns are similarly used for kidnappings and land displacement leaving many citizens in displacement.

They called for land justice with equal treatment for the rich and the poor. They said that often there are so-called rich people who use guns to seize the land of the poor and they cannot appeal to the courts or have the money to get lawyers to defend them.

They spoke about the issue of environmental protection and urged the government to strengthen laws to save and protect rivers, wetlands, forests and the environment of all kinds.

They condemned the failed habit of littering bottles and plastic bags which they said would also breed on the buttoned up of the world.

Meanwhile, the religious leaders condemned the rampant corruption in the country which they said is a weakness of the NRM government, because when it came to power, fighting corruption was one of the priorities but the situation in the country is corruption shows that while corrupt government officials are just smearing them with apartments.

They said corruption and bribery has led to Ugandans not getting services as they should because the money ends up in the hands of the poor while other Ugandans remain comfortable.

In Uganda every year on Good Friday , Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox believers conduct a joint Mass of the Cross, with various groups from different cathedrals then having a joint encounter at the Old Kampala SS grounds.

The Way of the Cross was attended by priests, nuns, brothers, pastors and many other people of God.
