Badminton Action Serves Off as 40 Teams Compete at USSSA Ball Games I in Mukono

The badminton competition at the ongoing 2026 USSSA Ball Games I got underway on Friday at Seroma Christian High School in Mukono, with schools from across the country battling for early dominance in the team events.
A total of 40 teams are taking part in this year’s championship, evenly split between boys and girls with 20 teams each, highlighting the growing popularity of the sport at the school level.

Matches began in the morning across multiple courts, featuring team events in different groups for both categories. In the girls’ competition, schools competed in Groups A, B, C, and D, with several players showcasing impressive skill and composure in singles and doubles encounters.
Among the notable results, Sacred Heart Secondary School Mushanga secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Seeta High School Green, while Kakungulu Memorial School also registered a 3-0 win against St. Michael High School Sonde. Individual performances stood out, including strong wins by players such as Gloria Tiisa and Namubiru Victoria Bington in their respective singles matches.
In the boys’ category, St. Mary’s College Kisubi delivered a dominant 3-0 performance against St. Joseph’s Secondary School Nagalama, while Namilyango College also cruised to a 3-0 victory over Mbarara High School. Kings College Budo and traditional powerhouses in badminton showed early intent with solid performances in their opening fixtures.
The matches, played in a team-event format consisting of singles and doubles ties, set the tone for what promises to be a highly competitive tournament over the coming days.
With action continuing throughout the weekend, attention now turns to the remaining group stage matches as teams fight to secure qualification to the knockout rounds.
The badminton competition is one of 11 sports disciplines being contested at this year’s USSSA Ball Games I, hosted by Seroma Christian High School.
