Mortal Kombat back in cinema

Mortal Kombat back in cinema

Mortal Kombat (2021) was a critical and financial failure, making $84 million worldwide on a $55 million budget.

The film lost money, so you don’t have to watch it to enjoy the sequel. Mortal Kombat II largely ignores the events of its predecessor and the story arcs that the first film introduced, instead throwing the spotlight on Johnny Cage, a washed-up actor forced to participate in a deadly tournament whose outcome will determine the fate of the Earth.

Critics (65 per cent) and general audiences (89 per cent) agree that Mortal Kombat II is significantly superior to its predecessor, abandoning any attempt at dramatic storytelling in favour of a fun, action romp, whose only objective is to entertain.
