President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on religious leaders to promote unity among citizens as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
This message was delivered by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, who represented President Museveni as the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony of first Kisoro District Khadh, Sheikh Ali Mwesigye on the event held at Kisoro Hill Primary School in Kisoro Municipality.
While reading the President’s letter, Hon. Tayebwa noted that since 1986, the government has significantly improved key sectors such as education, roads, and healthcare.
The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje of the Uganda Supreme Muslim Council, applauded President Museveni for the government’s continued support toward the Islamic faith.
Sheikh Mubajje also commended the people of Kisoro for prioritizing education, saying it had enabled them to raise a leader qualified to serve as District Khadh.
The Mufti urged Sheikh Mwesigye to continue promoting unity and cooperation among the faithful.
Bufumbira South MP, Hon. Eng. Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda, encouraged Muslims to work together for the district’s development,
Kisoro District Woman MP, Hon. Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, congratulated Sheikh Ali Mwesigye on his appointment and praised his commitment to serving the Islamic community and fostering peace.
She also appreciated the presence of the Guest of Honor and called on all religious leaders to collaborate for the sake of community development.
In his remarks, Sheikh Ali Mwesigye pledged to serve all people without discrimination and to ensure that residents actively participate in government programs aimed at eradicating poverty.
