Mountain of the Moon University (MMU) announced themselves as a true force in university Scrabble after an outstanding showing at the AUUS Games 2025, hosted at Uganda Christian University. With medals across both individual and team events.
MMU’s brightest moment came in the women’s category, where the university dominated both the individual and team contests. Muzaki Pricilla delivered a composed and tactical performance to claim silver in the women’s individual event, while her teammate Kyomugisha Mariam added a bronze, ensuring MMU occupied two places on the podium. Their consistency and coordination later powered MMU to gold in the women’s team event, sealing their status as the strongest collective side in the competition.
In the men’s competition, MMU also proved their quality against stiff opposition from some of the country’s most established Scrabble institutions. Mwito Joseph Kamya fought his way to the bronze medal in the men’s individual category, showcasing resilience and sharp board control throughout the tournament.
The men’s team event further highlighted MMU’s growing Scrabble pedigree. Battling through tightly contested rounds, MMU secured bronze, finishing behind Mbarara University of Science and Technology and Makerere University, but ahead of several experienced contenders.
MMU’s overall performance reflected a program built on preparation, discipline and teamwork. While other universities may have claimed individual highlights, Mountain of the Moon University stood out for their balance across categories and their ability to consistently reach the podium.
As the AUUS Games 2025 continue to celebrate excellence in university sport, MMU’s Scrabble team have firmly positioned themselves as a rising powerhouse proving that from the mountains, champions of the board are being made, one word at a time.
