The Uganda Police Force has launched a serious manhunt for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Acaye Moses, stationed at Alebtong district as the Officer in Charge (OC) of the station. ASP Acaye is wanted in connection with a revenge attack and murder by shooting of Omona Simon, a 24-year-old resident of Lulayi village, which occurred on February 20, 2024, at approximately 11 am. The incident has sparked a search operation led by the Territorial Police in the North West Nile Region and Adjuman CPS.

According to reports from the authorities, ASP Acaye Moses, who had been armed with a pistol, left his assigned station and reported his presence at Appa Police Station on February 20, 2024. His visit was intended to follow up on investigations into the murder of his brother, Opio Emmanuel, who was reportedly killed by a mob on February 10, 2024. ASP Acaye was part of a team that responded to Apaa trading center after one of the suspects in his brother’s case was spotted in the area.

Upon arrival at the trading center, ASP Acaye allegedly drew his pistol and fired at Omona Simon, the victim, who was subsequently rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention. Unfortunately, Simon succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Following the shooting, ASP Acaye reportedly handed over his pistol for safe custody at Lacor Hospital Police Post on February 24, 2022, before disappearing.

The actions of ASP Acaye Moses, as an officer sworn to serve and protect, have drawn condemnation from the Uganda Police Force. His alleged abandonment of his sworn oath to uphold the sanctity of life, resulting in the loss of Simon’s life, is deemed a gross abuse of police authority. The excessive use of force in this instance has led to what is described as a senseless murder, and authorities are urging ASP Acaye to surrender himself and present his defense.
