Two individuals, including a businessman, have been apprehended on suspicion of possessing government property unlawfully in an operation conducted by police authorities in Tororo District. The arrests were made following a concerted effort to recover a firearm stolen from a police officer stationed at Tororo Central Police Station.

According to Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, law enforcement personnel recovered a police gun during the early hours of March 3, 2024, at Suruti Zone, Central ward, Magodesi Town Council in Tororo District. The suspects involved in this incident were identified as Haruna Tabu, a resident of Mukujju in Tororo District, and William Ojore, a 32-year-old businessman residing in Agururu A cell, Western division, Tororo Municipality.

The operation, conducted jointly by police forces including the Flying Squad, Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID), and Crime Intelligence Officers (CIO), aimed to apprehend individuals connected to a series of armed robberies in the Tororo area. Mugwe explained that upon interrogation, Tabu disclosed Ojore’s involvement in the possession of the stolen firearm.

Subsequently, Tabu led the police to Ojore’s residence in Suruti Village, where the stolen AK47 gun, along with 28 rounds of ammunition, was concealed in the home of Joseph Okongo. The recovered items, wrapped in a khaki trouser, mosquito net, and packed in a sack hidden within a heap of firewood, were found in an incomplete kitchen.
