Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary General of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has dispelled rumors circulating on social media alleging that Barbie Kyagulanyi is a signatory to all of the party’s bank accounts. Barbie is the spouse of NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine.
Addressing the allegations through his X (formerly Twitter) account, Rubongoya firmly denied the claims, affirming that Barbie has never held the position of a signatory to any NUP account.
Rubongoya clarified that the standard practice dictates that the signatories to the party’s single account include the President, Secretary General, and the National Treasurer, as per the resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Further refuting the assertions made in the viral message, Rubongoya rejected claims suggesting that Kyagulanyi receives an unreasonably high monthly salary of Shs100 million. Rubongoya emphasized that Kyagulanyi receives a facilitation allowance for his work, which is less than what he earned as a Member of Parliament, although the exact amount was not disclosed.

Rubongoya also addressed allegations of lack of transparency and accountability within the NUP leadership, asserting that the party regularly files accountability reports in accordance with the law. Additionally, he stated that the party consistently provides detailed accounts of its expenditures to both party members and the public, highlighting its commitment to transparency.
The clarification provided by Rubongoya aims to address misinformation and maintain transparency regarding the financial operations of the NUP.
