Aspirants eyeing parliamentary seats in Luweero District have wasted no time in launching early campaigns, gearing up for the nominations slated for September next year. According to the Electoral Commission Road Map, the nominations for parliamentary candidates are scheduled for Tuesday, 16th, and Wednesday, 17th of September 2025, with polling expected to take place between Monday, 12th January, and Monday, 9th February 2026, as stipulated in Article 62(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

Despite being eighteen months away from the official nomination period, the races for parliamentary seats in Luweero are already intensifying, with aspirants engaging in various activities to garner support from constituents. One of the most hotly contested constituencies in the district is Katikamu North, currently represented by MP Denis Sekabira of the National Unity Platform.

Two prominent aspirants, Ronald Ndawula, the current NRM District Chairperson, and Gaddafi Nasur, the NRM Youths League Chairperson, have already begun mobilizing support. Both candidates previously contested for the seat in 2021 but were unsuccessful against MP Sekabira.

Gaddafi Nasur recently hosted 100 youths at Luwero Diocese Guest House and deployed them in Luwero town to kick-start his mobilization efforts. He has also been engaging with women’s groups and community leaders, soliciting their support for his candidacy. In addition, Gaddafi has initiated various development projects, including the sinking of boreholes, distribution of poultry, and financial contributions to small-scale businesses.

Ronald Ndawula, on the other hand, is focusing on infrastructure development, such as the construction of a pineapple roadside market to benefit local farmers and vendors. He has also been actively involved in supporting educational and religious institutions within the constituency.

Both Ndawula and Gaddafi are capitalizing on dissatisfaction among residents with the current representation by MP Sekabira. They argue that the incumbent has failed to effectively lobby for the constituency’s interests, choosing instead to criticize the government without tangible results.

MP Sekabira, however, defends his record, stating that his role is to hold the government accountable for its pledges and to advocate for improved service delivery. Despite facing challenges, Sekabira claims to have been instrumental in pushing for various development projects within the constituency.

In addition to the Katikamu North constituency, campaigns have also begun in other areas of Luwero District, including the race for the District Woman MP seat and the Bamunanika County seat. As the electoral period progresses, the dynamics of these campaigns will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of Luwero, with the incumbent opposition MPs facing stiff competition from NRM candidates seeking to reclaim their seats.
