The unsettling disappearance of an Egyptian national, Ahmed Zinhom Ibrahim Selim, has culminated in a grim discovery as his lifeless body was recovered from Awoja swamp in Soroti district, according to police reports.

Ahmed Zinhom Ibrahim Selim, aged 32 and a resident of Camp Swahili ward in Soroti city west division, vanished under mysterious circumstances a week prior to the discovery of his body.

The last sighting of Selim occurred on the evening of February 23, where he was reportedly seen with two companions at his residence.

Concerns escalated when Selim’s employee, Mark Kisolo, visited his home the following day, only to find it empty after entering. This prompted the registration of a disappearance case with the Police in Soroti City East division.

Initial investigations by the Police, including analysis by detectives and crime scene officers, raised suspicions of foul play, especially after the recovery of Selim’s trousers, which were the last items seen with him.

Two suspects were identified and apprehended in connection with Selim’s disappearance: Muhammed Nabil Ali, who was reportedly with Selim on the evening he was last seen, and Kisolo, who gained entry to Selim’s house on the day he went missing.

Authorities urged the public to provide any information regarding Selim’s whereabouts, intensifying efforts to locate him.

However, on Saturday afternoon, East Kyoga Police spokesperson Oscar Gregg Ageca confirmed the distressing news of Selim’s body being discovered in Awoja swamp. Subsequently, five individuals, including four Egyptian nationals and one Ugandan, were detained as persons of interest in the investigation.

With the recovery of Selim’s body, the Police indicated that the charges against the suspects would be amended to align with the offense of murder, as per the jurisdiction of Soroti West division policing.
