Shakira Among, a young politician and granddaughter of the late Major General David Oyite Ojok, who served as the Chief of Staff for the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) during the second presidency of Dr. Apollo Milton Obote, has announced her candidacy for the Youth Member of Parliament seat representing the Eastern region in the upcoming 2026 elections.

Born into a political family, Shakira is the daughter of Linda Agnes Auma, who currently serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira District. Linda Agnes Auma is also the biological daughter of the late Major General Oyite Ojok, whose life tragically ended in 1983 in a helicopter crash, along with nine other army officers, while overseeing operations against the National Resistance Army (NRA).

Among, who currently represents the youth of Lira at the Lira City Council, aims to succeed Phiona Nyamutooro, a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), as the Youth MP for the Eastern region. Notably, Shakira Among’s accomplishments include being crowned Miss Lira in 2017 and serving as the Face of Lango Cultural Heritage. In 2020, she was honored as Miss Tourism Northern Region and currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Miss Lango Beauty Pageant. Additionally, she pursued a degree in law from Kampala Internatonal University (KIU) and has prior experience working in radio broadcasting.

While her candidacy is expected to be under the NRM ticket, she remains open to all possibilities, including running independently if circumstances demand. However, her path to victory may face challenges from other contenders, including a member of the National Youth Council known for her controversial associations. This individual has been accused of interfering in the marriages of prominent politicians and maintains a significant social circle, as evidenced by her connections with regional leaders.

Among her rumored targets are ministers, Members of Parliament, sports figures, businessmen, and senior government officials. Notably, she is allegedly involved with a minister from eastern Uganda, who is reported to have multiple wives, including one from Kazo district, western Uganda. The minister’s alleged involvement with this individual has caused tension within his marriages, with rumors suggesting that she poses a threat to their stability.

Furthermore, the same individual has purported connections to a Member of Parliament involved in sports, who is married to a prominent woman in the country and follows the Muslim faith. Reports indicate that the MP’s spouse has intervened, expressing disapproval of the alleged relationship. Additionally, she has been linked to a high-ranking official at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and two Members of Parliament from central Buganda and western Uganda, respectively.
