How Amama Mbabazi met his wife Jaqueline

Former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi on Saturday celebrated 50 years in marriage with his wife, Jaqueline Mbabazi at a colourful event in Kampala.

Speaking to the guests, Jacqueline narrated how the two met in 1969.

She said  a group of Kigezi College, Butobere students went to Bweranyangi on a drama trip and Mbabazi was acting in a play as a father.

The role by Mbabazi excited many girls at Bweranyangi but he had noticed one particular one, Jaqueline.

“In 1969, he came to our school to act a play and all the girls fell for him. He later wrote a letter to me that only had, I wish you success in your exams but didn’t put anything,” Jacqueline said on Saturday.

Later in December 1969 during the, holidays, the two would briefly meet on Kabale Main Street where they exchanged pleasantries, and as they say, the rest is history.

“I want to thank God for this achievement. It is no mean achievement. I thank you Amama for living with me for 50 years with my perfect imperfections, you coloured my life,” Jaqueline said on Saturday.

The former Prime Minister thanked God for protecting them for all these years.

“Today we renew our vows and gives thanks to the Lord. It has been a journey of love, resilience and enduring love. We thank the Lord for taking us through the struggles of Cancer and spinal issues as a testament of power of faith,” Mbabazi said.

“Tonight as we celebrate surrounded by friends, family and the president, I am filled with gratitude and pride. Jackie you are my strength and my rock.”

The function was attended by several dignitaries, friends and relatives to the couple.
