The Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) has announced the extension of its executive members’ term, with the exception of the vice chairperson who opted out and has been replaced. The decision was made during their annual general assembly, which saw a low turnout due to a lack of quorum.

The election, held on Wednesday, March 6, was attended by only 16 members out of the initial 32, with some participating through Zoom conferencing. This reduced attendance was partly due to the passing of Cecilia Atim Ogwal (Dokolo) in January and the departure of Jonathan Odur (Erute South) last year.

During the assembly, the executive members were re-elected unopposed, except for the vice chairperson Moses Okot (Kioga), who declined re-election. He was replaced by Nelson Okello (Maruzi North), while Judith Alyek (Kole) retained her position as chairperson, Linda Agnes Auma (Lira) as publicity secretary, Julius Acon Bua (Otuke East) as treasurer, and Samuel Opio Acuti (Kolr North) as general secretary.

Speaking after the re-election, Judith Alyek emphasized the group’s commitment to their priorities, including the upgrade of health facilities in the region. Despite Lango comprising 10 administrative units (districts), there is currently only one hospital in Apac, highlighting the pressing need for improved healthcare infrastructure.

Alyek also mentioned the group’s achievements, such as the construction of the Rwenkunya-Apac-Lira-Acholibur road and the Lira-Kamdini road, which contribute to increasing the percentage of tarmac roads in the sub-region to over 3%.

Furthermore, she highlighted ongoing efforts to monitor the construction of the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium, following the handover of the site to a contractor. This project signifies the group’s dedication to enhancing sports infrastructure and community development in Lango.
