Lightning Strike Claims Life of Three Year Old Girl in Pader

A 3 year-old girl lost her life after being struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm in Lapunu-makwar village, Lalogi parish, Lapul Sub-County, Pader,

The incidenty unfolded at approximately 8 pm on Friday, coinciding with a prolonged downpour lasting nearly three hours. The victim, identified as Lakot Oliver, succumbed to the lightning strike, which also claimed the lives of five goats seeking shelter inside the family’s hut.

According to the father of the deceased, Cosmas Obur, the lightning bolt engulfed the entire house, instantly killing his daughter and incinerating all belongings within. The mother of the deceased narrowly escaped harm as she had stepped outside to protect harvested grains from the rain moments before the fatal strike.

Ali Peter Bosco, the LC 3 Chairperson of Lapul sub-county, confirmed the tragic incident and extended condolences to the grieving family. He appealed for assistance from well wishers and district authorities to support the bereaved family in this difficult time.

Justine Ocen, the Vice Chairperson of the Pader District LC V, expressed sympathy towards the affected families and urged them to formally document the incident for official records. He assured that the district administration would collaborate with partners to provide necessary assistance to those affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, Michael Wangi, the Pader District Chairperson for Disaster Preparedness and Management, as well as the District Chief Administrative Officer, stated that formal reports from the sub county were awaited to facilitate appropriate response measures to such incidents.
