Lt Gen Elwelu Stresses Need For Africa’s Integration

Lieutenant General Peter Elwelu, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, reiterated the significance of integration within Africa to tackle the continent’s challenges. He shared these insights during an engagement with a delegation from the Kenya Defence Forces Defence Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) – Karen, Course 39-2023/24, currently undertaking a study tour in Uganda. The interface took place at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.

Highlighting Africa’s abundant natural and human resources, Lt Gen Elwelu emphasized the pivotal role of regional integration in fostering regional security. He stressed that such security is indispensable for the prosperity and well-being of the African populace.

Expressing gratitude towards the visiting delegation, Lt Gen Elwelu underscored the strong and amicable relationship between Uganda and Kenya. He noted that both nations share a common objective of ensuring peace, stability, and socio-economic advancement for their citizens.

Colonel Stephen Sabila Kapkory, the head of the Kenya Defence Forces delegation, outlined the purpose of their visit. He stated that it aimed to provide students with valuable insights into military and security operations.

The event saw the presence of key figures such as Brig Gen James Kinalwa, Chief of Personnel and Administration, Brig Gen Godwin Karugaba, Chief of Logistics and Engineering, as well as Brig Gen Fred Twinamasiko, Brig Gen Abdul Rugumayo, and other senior UPDF officers.
