A tragic fire engulfed the boy’s dormitory at Margherita Demonstration School in Kisanga Cell of Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, resulting in the destruction of property valued at millions. The incident, which occurred on Thursday night, left the school community and local authorities reeling from the devastating loss.

According to Kato Annon, a Primary Seven Pupil at the school, the fire erupted around 8pm, catching them unaware while they were attending classes. The sudden blaze swiftly consumed all their belongings, leaving behind charred remnants of their personal items.

Expressing sympathy for the affected pupils, SSP Moses Nanoka, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Commander, assured them of the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. Despite the inability to prevent the destruction, he pledged to collaborate with school authorities to ensure the safety and security of the students.

Addressing the distraught pupils, SSP Nanoka assured them of ongoing investigations to determine the cause of the fire. He emphasized the importance of accountability and pledged to hold responsible parties accountable for the loss incurred.

As the evening progressed, parents rushed to the school to retrieve their children, seeking solace and reassurance amidst the chaos. However, access to the premises was restricted for safety reasons, leading to escalating tensions between parents and security personnel.

Despite security advisories against immediate retrieval of their children, some parents adamantly insisted on taking them home, highlighting the emotional turmoil and sense of urgency surrounding the situation. The clash between parental concerns and security protocols underscored the gravity of the incident and its impact on the community.

Amidst the turmoil, a portion of parents were eventually permitted to take their children home, while others remained at the school premises, grappling with the aftermath of the fire.
