Residents of Masindi have demanded for explanation from the office of district natural resources over alleged partnership with national forest authority (NFA) to steal public land.
This concern was raised during district budget conference held on Friday 31st October 2025.
Shirinji Aziz resident of Nyanghya cell central division Masindi Municipality while submitting his concern before the authorities noted that, the rate at which NFA is grabbing public land is alarming saying they apply high level of tricks which an ordinary person can’t easily understand.
Aziz adds that a lot of people have lost their lands to ‘land grabbers’ amidst public outcry but the relevant offices have never intervened and the poor who luck money to go to court in search for justice end up losing their land something he says needs agent intervention.
Benjamin Byarugaba another resident wondered wether the office of natural resources is aware that lead government agencies are grabbing private land from land owners and shift boundaries which have existed time memorial.
Byaruhanga adds that the agencies just wake up and begin placing markstones in private lands without involving the owners, which he termed as impunity of the highest order.
Augustus Bigirwenkya another resident also accused the office of the natural resources of asking for much money when someone applies for land title something which he says is the cause for some people failing to title their lands which in his own opinion paves way to land grabbers.
“I want to know how many land titles district has so far processed and your plan towards people who have faced such challenges,” Bigirwenkya stated.
In response, Simon Akweteireho denied allegations that his office partners with government agencies to steal public land.
He however promised to follow up the matter of alleged shifting of boundaries which has existed for long by NFA and place markstones in private lands.
We could not get comment from NFA by the time of filling this story.
