According to Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Police’s Traffic and Safety Directorate, travelers intending to journey to or from Jinja are advised to take alternative routes such as the Mukono-Katosi road or the Mukono-Kayunga Njeru road.

The chaos unfolded on Sunday, March 3, 2024, when a trailer, identified as Benz KDD 531H, reportedly lost control at Namagunga. The driver allegedly first collided with a pickup double cabin before its container detached and crashed onto a tipper truck. The aftermath of the accident prompted law enforcement to reroute traffic through Katosi at Wantoni-Mukono and Njeru to Kampala along the same path.

“We have responded to a grave road traffic accident at Namagunga involving a trailer, tipper, and a pickup, effectively blocking the Kampala-Jinja highway,” stated Kananura, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

“To ensure the safety of motorists and to mitigate congestion, traffic heading towards Jinja is being diverted through Katosi at Wantoni-Mukono, while Njeru is directing traffic towards Kampala using the same route,” he further explained.
