After nine days of uncertainty, Kemigisha Sharon, a dedicated supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has resurfaced following her alleged abduction. David Lewis Rubongoya, in a social media post, revealed that Sharon was found dumped in an undisclosed location by unknown captors. Fortunately, a compassionate boda-boda rider came to her aid and transported her to the NUP office late at night.
According to Sharon, during her captivity, she endured solitary confinement while hearing the cries of others subjected to torture in nearby rooms. Her captors reportedly interrogated her regarding her outspoken criticism of ‘the regime’ during various interviews. In a heartbreaking account, Sharon recounted how she was forced to undress and photographed by her assailants, who mocked her throughout the ordeal.
The news of Sharon’s reappearance elicited a response from NUP leader Bobi Wine, who expressed relief at her return. He commended Sharon for her strength in the face of adversity and reassured her that everything would eventually be alright.
The incident involving Sharon highlights the ongoing threats faced by political activists and dissenters in the country. The arbitrary abduction and mistreatment of individuals for expressing their views constitute grave violations of human rights and must be condemned by society as a whole.
