Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has issued a stern warning to opposition leaders in the Masaka sub-region, urging them to refrain from using the guise of their fight against corruption to tarnish the reputation of government officials. Nabbanja’s remarks were made during her participation in a fundraiser for St. Jude Parish in Lukaya, Kalungu District.

Opposition leaders have frequently criticized government officials, including Nabbanja, for their alleged involvement in corrupt activities. Nabbanja, in particular, has been targeted, with accusations claiming she misappropriated several hundred iron sheets meant for the vulnerable people of Caroa. However, during the fundraiser, Nabbanja vehemently denied these allegations, stating, “Did you hear my name anywhere? Stop it! I have never taken any iron sheets home.”

Nabbanja emphasized that the iron sheets she has distributed were not part of the contested batch. She urged opposition leaders to cease their accusatory stance and adopt a more constructive approach. She stated, “If you have not done anything for your people, just say you have nothing, because I’m tired of this, and the country should know the truth.”

The Prime Minister’s statement was provoked by criticism from the Leader of Opposition, Joel, who accused government officials of embezzling funds and called for special prayers to combat corruption. Nabbanja highlighted the staggering loss of over 10 trillion shillings to corruption annually and underscored the need for accountability.

Despite the accusations, Nabbanja remains resolute in her commitment to fighting corruption. She expressed concern that corruption has permeated even into Parliament, hindering its ability to hold the government accountable. Nabbanja stressed the importance of clean governance and urged vigilance from Ugandans in holding all institutions accountable.

During the fundraiser, Prime Minister Nabbanja contributed 10 million shillings, while the Leader of Opposition in Parliament raised 3 million shillings.
