Date: 24 May 2026As Uganda prepares for the election of the leadership of the 12thParliament, public interest and national attention continue to grow.Different opinions, expectations and political interpretations continue toemerge, reflecting the importance of Parliament as a central institutionof governance and representation.Recent developments suggest that consultations and institutionalprocesses remain active and influential in shaping outcomes.Nevertheless, parliamentary decisions are ultimately determinedthrough constitutional procedures, collective judgment and the will ofelected representatives.Beyond discussions and expectations, the most importantconsideration remains service to the people of Uganda. Leadership isboth an opportunity and a responsibility requiring wisdom, humility, national unity and commitment to development and public wellbeing. As a Christian, I place the process and its outcome in God’s hands andkeep my hands crossed in humility and expectation. Keeping one’shands crossed means remaining patient, calm and hopeful whileallowing events to unfold according to God’s timing and establishedinstitutional processes.Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all yourheart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submitto Him, and He will make your paths straight.”ConclusionAs Uganda enters this important parliamentary exercise, differentexpectations continue to emerge regarding the leadership of the 12thParliament. Earlier analytical observations suggested that Jacob ObothOboth appeared to hold a stronger position for Speaker (estimated at75–85%), while Thomas Tayebwa appeared to remain a strongcontender for Deputy Speaker (estimated at 70–80%), with continuity, parliamentary experience and institutional familiarity seen as possibleadvantages. These remain observations rather than final outcomes. Asa Christian, I place the final decision in God’s hands and remainprayerful and hopeful that the process will promote unity, wisdom andthe wellbeing of Uganda.Amb. Franklin R.
