A fresh chapter is unfolding at Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited as seasoned engineer Joselynne Rwakakooko steps into the role of Acting Managing Director, signaling a period of continuity and renewed operational focus within the country’s power distribution sector.
Her appointment, effective May 2, 2026, follows a directive from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development that placed substantive Managing Director Paul Mwesigwa on leave as part of broader governance adjustments.
Rather than disruption, the transition is being framed as a strategic realignment aimed at strengthening performance and stability. In a statement issued by the Board and signed by Interim Chairperson Stella Marie Biwaga Cingtho, the move was described as part of ongoing efforts to refine leadership structures while safeguarding service delivery.
Rwakakooko brings more than two decades of experience in electricity distribution, commercial strategy, and utility management. Having previously served as Chief Commercial and Operations Officer at UEDCL, she is widely regarded as a steady hand with deep institutional knowledge and a results-driven approach to reform.
Her elevation is expected to reinforce ongoing improvements in efficiency, customer service, and system reliability, areas that remain central to Uganda’s growing energy demands.
The Board also paid tribute to Mwesigwa’s tenure, acknowledging his contribution to the company’s progress over the years and his role in steering UEDCL through key phases of development.
Importantly, stakeholders have been assured that the leadership change will not interrupt operations. The company emphasized that it remains stable, fully functional, and committed to delivering reliable electricity across the country.
With Rwakakooko at the helm, UEDCL is positioning itself to maintain momentum while embracing innovation, teamwork, and integrity as it powers homes, businesses, and industries nationwide.
