Two Family Members Die in Maracha Road Accident

Two members of the same family have died in an accident along the Arua-Koboko road in Maracha district. The accident occurred on Thursday near Aro Church of Uganda in Okokoro Town Council. 

Police have identified the victims as Vincent Aguma, a motorcycle rider and resident of Ajupeni village, Alivu Parish, Kijomoro sub-county in Maracha District, and the other has only been identified as Lina, a resident of the same village.

Josephine Angucia, the Police Spokesperson for the West Nile region explains that the accident occurred when the two victims who were riding on the same motorcycle rammed into a stationary Fuso Fighter vehicle that had broken down. 

According to Angucia, Aguma who was carrying his mother lost control after a tyre burst.

Denis Feta, one of the relatives of the deceased,  said that at the time of the accident, the two were traveling to attend a funeral service.

The latest accident comes just four days after two people lost their lives and four others got injured in a road crash at Manibe Ward, Ayivu Division, Arua City along the Arua – Koboko road.

According to the Annual Police Crime Report 2023, the number of casualties from road crashes in Uganda increased from 21,473 in 2022 to 24,728 in 2023.

Motorcycles were the most involved in road crashes between January and December 2023, contributing to a total of 13,386 cases of which 2,498 were fatal.
