UCU Lady Canons bounced back in style with a commanding 75-52 victory over the Magic Stormers in a National Basketball League encounter held at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
From the opening tip-off, the Lady Canons asserted their dominance, establishing an early lead in the first quarter with a score of 16-9, a lead they never surrendered throughout the game.
Despite a late surge from the Magic Stormers in the final quarter, where Nyachwo Owor’s three-pointer narrowed the deficit to just four points with four minutes remaining, the Lady Canons responded with a decisive 10-0 run, effectively sealing the game.
Tracy Namugosa was the standout performer for the Lady Canons, securing a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while also tallying six assists.
Sylvia Nantongo contributed 14 points, while Bridget Aber dominated the boards with 10 rebounds for the Mukono-based side.
In contrast, Kur Ajah led the scoring for the Magic Stormers with 14 points, the only player to reach double digits in losing effort. Ruth Nambirige added nine points and nine rebounds.
The Stormers struggled from beyond the arc, missing 20 of their 24 attempts, ultimately costing them the game.
And also, the rebounding battle was decisively won by UCU, with a commanding 65-40 advantage, further solidifying their control of the game.
The victory marks a significant return to form for UCU Lady Canons, following their recent loss to JKL Lady Dolphins. With six victories in eight games this season, they remain strong contenders in the league.
Meanwhile, the loss for John Omondi’s Magic Stormers halts their two-game winning streak, leaving them with a record of five losses in seven games.
The UCU Lady Canons will look to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign in the National Basketball League, while the Magic Stormers will aim to bounce back from this defeat in their upcoming fixtures.
