Uganda, Russia Deepen Cooperation In Education, Trade & Diplomacy Ahead Of Russia–Africa Summit

Uganda and Russia have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic ties following a high-level bilateral meeting between Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeje Odongo, and Sergey Lobanov in Kampala.
The meeting underscored the growing cooperation between the Republic of Uganda and the Russian Federation across key strategic sectors, with both sides expressing commitment to strengthening relations for the mutual benefit of their peoples and governments.
During the discussions, the Russian Federation formally invited Uganda to participate in the Third Russia–Africa Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 28–29 October 2026. The summit is expected to bring together African leaders and Russian officials to deepen dialogue and expand cooperation on issues of shared interest.
According to officials, the summit will focus on strengthening partnerships in trade, investment, technology transfer, education, and regional and international peace and security. Uganda’s participation is expected to further consolidate its engagement with Russia in these priority areas.
Education cooperation also featured prominently during the meeting. The Russian side acknowledged Uganda’s request for an increase in scholarship opportunities for Ugandan students for the 2026–2027 academic year. The initiative forms part of broader bilateral efforts aimed at enhancing higher education, skills development, and academic exchange between the two countries.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained diplomatic engagement and closer collaboration, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations amid evolving global and regional dynamics.
The meeting highlighted the enduring partnership between Uganda and Russia and signaled continued cooperation in advancing shared development and strategic interests.
