UPL Golden Boot Race: Three-horse Contest?

0

The contest for the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League (UPL) Golden Boot is fast developing into a three-horse race.

Three players are all tied on 11 goals as the race for the UPL title intensified, and the top scorers’ race tightened once again in the previous match-week.

Denis Omedi joined Nelson Ssenkatuuka and Muhammad Shaban at the joint-top three after scoring the opener in Kitara’s emphatic 3-0 win against URA.

Ssenkatuka registered no goal as Bright Stars drew 2-2 with Busoga United. He hasn’t found the back of the net in the past four league games, since he scored the only goal as Bright Stars beat Wakiso Giants 1-0 at Kavumba back in February.

Shaban did not play the KCCA game against Vipers – he was out, suspended for accumulated yellow cards as the Kasasiro Boys picked maximum points on the road, thanks to Mustafa Kizza’s stoppage time winner.

Besides Ssenkatuka, Shaban and Omedi, only one other player, Isaac Wagoina (Express) has so far hit double figures in the league this campaign.
