Prof. Muranga encourages Bushenyi farmers and youth to participate actively in the forthcoming Tooke run, warning that if they do not , athletes from other regions will dominate and win the prizes

A high-level security meeting was held on 5th June 2026 at Peak Hotel in Bushenyi District to assess progress on preparations for the Tooke Run, scheduled for 20th June 2026. The meeting brought together key security stakeholders including RDCs, RPCs, RISO, the Chief of Security and the Uganda Police of Bushenyi district and its neighboring districts to ensure the Tooke Run is a success.

The meeting’s main intention was to find out where preparations have reached and to ensure all logistics are in place for the annual race, which promotes nutrition and elite sports through the Tooke brand under PIBID/BIRDC.

The Tooke Run is a national campaign to combat child malnutrition and support elite athletes, led by Rev. Prof. Florence Isabirye Muranga, Secretary General of GCIC and Primary contact between Government and citizens.
The race, themed “Move, Learn, Discover with Nutrition-Care”, links fitness with proper nutrition using Tooke’s gluten-free, resistant starch products. President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to lead as Chief Runner, with 6,000 kits targeted 2000 already sold, 2000 kits ready for sale and 2000 more kits to be made and a new 402-acre factory planned for Rutete, Nshaara in Kiruhura.

In the morning of 5th June, the District Health Officer briefed the task force on the dangers of the Ebola pandemic. He explained the SOPs for Ebola and stressed that health matters must come before anything else. After the briefing, the RDC of Bushenyi District addressed the meeting with remarks on coordination and security for the event.
Rev. Prof. Florence Isabirye Muranga, Director General of PIBID/BIRDC, attended the meeting after first participating in the fundraising breakfast at Mwesigwa Resorts in Kiruhura. She explained her late arrival and shared highlights from the breakfast:

Over 2,000 kits already sold, 2,000 ready for sale, and 2,000 more to be produced.
Prizes announced for winners in the 21km, 10km, and 5km categories.
Elite athletes such as Moses Kipsiro pledged to attend in large numbers, aiming to claim the prizes.

Prof. Muranga encouraged Bushenyi farmers and youth to participate actively, warning that if they do not, athletes from other regions will dominate and take the prizes.
It was noted that Kira Motors has supported the event by providing buses to transport athletes to the running grounds, ensuring smooth logistics.
Different committees were assigned and advised by the Tooke brand Ambassodor Mr. Henry Mugisha to hand in budgets detailing what they need, equipment, staff, facilitation and when and why they need it and other requirements. Committees represented included the health committee, financial committee, welfare committee and logistics committee among others.
The meeting also included a tour of the race routes. The 21km, 10km, and 5km tracks were inspected, and gathering points marked where referees will stand to monitor the race.
The Tooke Run, themed “Move, Learn, Discover with Nutrition‑Care”, links fitness with proper nutrition using Tooke’s gluten‑free, resistant starch products. With President Museveni set to lead as Chief Runner, 6,000 kits targeted, prizes announced, and a new 402‑acre factory planned for Rutete, Nshaara in Kiruhura, preparations are in full swing.
Bushenyi residents and all participants are encouraged to train and get ready, as the race promises not only competition but also community transformation through sport, nutrition, and industry.
