USSSA Qualifiers 2026: Lubiri Owns Kampala

Lubiri Secondary School emerged as the new kings of Kampala regional football after a thrilling 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Kibuli SS in a tense final of the USSSA Kampala Regional Qualifiers held at Hamz Stadium.

The much-anticipated clash lived up to expectations, with both sides displaying determination, tactical discipline, and moments of brilliance that kept fans on edge throughout the contest.

Kibuli SS started strongly, pressing high and creating early chances, but Lubiri SS remained composed, relying on disciplined defending and quick counterattacks. The turning point of the match came in the 20th minute when Kibuli’s captain was sent off after a foul on Abui Malith, giving Lubiri a numerical advantage.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Kibuli SS showed resilience and continued to match Lubiri’s intensity. The first half ended evenly poised, with both teams still in contention.

In the second half, Lubiri SS grew in confidence, controlling possession and dictating the tempo. However, Kibuli’s defense held firm under pressure, forcing the match into a stalemate by full time.

With no breakthrough, the final was decided by penalties. Lubiri SS kept their composure, converting their chances to seal a 5-3 win and spark celebrations among players and supporters.

The victory marks a historic milestone for Lubiri SS, highlighting their teamwork, discipline, and determination, and cementing their status among the top school football teams in the region.

Kibuli SS, despite the painful defeat, earned praise for their spirited performance, especially after playing most of the match a man down—showing promise for future competitions.

The final was graced by Justus Mugisha, president of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association.

Kampala Representatives to Nationals Confirmed

Following the conclusion of the qualifiers, Kampala region will be represented by five schools at the upcoming USSSA National Boys Football Championship to be held in Lira.

These teams will now carry Kampala’s hopes to the national stage as they compete against the best school sides from across the country.

The qualified teams are:

Lubiri SS (Champions)

Kibuli SS (Runners-up)

Kawempe Muslim SS (Bronze medalists)

Kazo Hill College

Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga
