The 2024 Uganda Boxing National Open has commenced with great fervor as fighters from across the region converge at Lugogo for a shot at glory.

The event, which began with weigh-ins and medical examinations on Saturday, has seen a remarkable turnout of 410 boxers, including 60 female athletes, representing over 40 clubs.

The competition, spanning several categories including Elite, Youth, and Juniors, promises intense bouts and fierce rivalries as fighters vie for Boxing Champions League and National Teams slots.

From seasoned veterans to up-and-coming talent, the tournament seeks to showcase the diversity and depth of Uganda’s boxing talent pool.

Despite facing financial constraints, the Uganda Boxing Federation, as revealed by Competitions Manager Mitchell Nakazzi, has spared no effort in organizing the event.

Nakazzi emphasized the importance of providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.

The action-packed event is scheduled to continue until Thursday, with the final showdown set to take place on Saturday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

For many fighters, this tournament represents more than just a chance at victory; it serves as a stepping stone towards national recognition.

With qualification for the Champions League on the line, the stakes are high for every fighter.

The top two boxers from each weight category will earn the opportunity to compete in the Champions League, where they will vie for a coveted spot on the national team.
