President Yoweri Museveni recently addressed the nation, expressing his aversion to being surrounded by poverty and emphasizing the importance of wealth creation. His remarks, delivered on TV and radio stations across the country on February 29, 2024, shed light on his vision for a prosperous Uganda.

President Museveni articulated his reluctance to reside among impoverished individuals, citing concerns about accountability to God for his affluence in the midst of poverty. Reflecting on his experience in Kisozi, Gomba district, where he acquired land, he noted the prevailing poverty among the local populace and resolved to embark on a campaign to uplift them economically.

“I told them I didn’t want to be neighbors with poor people. This goes against my beliefs because I don’t want God to question why I, a wealthy individual, surrounded myself with poverty. Thus, I initiated efforts to educate and empower them,” President Museveni stated.

During his address, President Museveni underscored the significance of wealth creation, highlighting the necessity of transitioning from a culture of consuming wealth to one of generating it. He emphasized the need to leverage Uganda’s indigenous resources and modernize them, drawing from pre-colonial practices for sustainable development.

“As a producer of wealth, I hold affection for all Ugandans because they support local industries by purchasing products such as milk, beef, and bananas. How could I harbor dislike towards any Ugandan?” President Museveni affirmed.

Furthermore, President Museveni urged Ugandans to embrace the ethos of wealth creation and reject divisive politics centered on parasitic tendencies and sectarianism. He cautioned against reliance on foreign aid and encouraged harnessing the nation’s abundant resources for self-sufficiency and prosperity.

“The politics of engaging with foreign interests are futile. Uganda possesses abundant resources, and we must capitalize on them for our collective advancement,” President Museveni emphasized.

In his address, President Museveni delineated a vision for a prosperous Uganda, underpinned by a culture of entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and community empowerment. His advocacy for wealth creation and economic independence resonates as a call to action for Ugandans to chart a path towards sustainable development and inclusive prosperity.
