On addressing the press at Media Center in Kampala, UNEB Executive Secretary Mathew Odongo, stated that According to Section 33 of the UNEB Act, Cap 259, it is an offence to charge fees not prescribed by UNEB and refer to them as “UNEB fees.”
“Heads of Centres and School Directors are therefore cautioned against presenting any additional administrative costs as UNEB fees.”
He stated that such an offence attracts a penalty of: A fine of two thousand currency points (equivalent to Forty Million Shillings), Or imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, Or both.
Additionally, any person convicted shall be required to refund all unauthorized charges to the affected students or their sponsors.
“The Board will also withdraw the school’s examination centre status. Furthermore, where the convicted person is a registered teacher, they shall be deregistered in accordance with the relevant laws governing the teaching profession.”

This has come at time when many schools have introduced un gazetted fees to all candidates, that they should clear before seating for their final UNEB papers, something which appears to be oppressive to parents and other care takers.
