Busoga United and Gaddafi FC played to a 1-1 draw in the Jinja derby at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.
The match remained evenly poised as both teams battled to secure their positions in the top flight, with Bithum Ronald’s goal for Gaddafi FC being equalized by Ajo Emmanuel.
Gaddafi FC seized the initiative early on and had their first chance just three minutes in, but Steven Munguchi failed to convert Frank Mulimi’s enticing cross.
Their dominance translated into a goal in the 29th minute when Bithum, left unmarked, nodded in Peter Musoke’s delivery.
However, ten minutes later, Ajo restored parity with a well-taken lob over the onrushing goalkeeper Andrew Ssekandi, courtesy of Isaac Mweru’s precise through ball.
Despite Busoga United’s renewed vigor in the second half, they couldn’t capitalize on their dominance.
Mweru was denied spectacularly by the goalkeeper early on, while substitute Logono Moses struck the woodwork and Jeremy Matata squandered a glorious header.
Gaddafi FC had a chance to snatch a late winner, but Mulimi’s effort sailed over the bar.
The teams remain separated by two points, with Busoga United in 14th place on 16 points and Gaddafi FC in 13th on 18 points, with both teams enjoying a six and eight-point cushion respectively over UPDF FC.
Next, Busoga United will face NEC FC in the Uganda Cup on Tuesday 5th before taking on UPDF in the league on Saturday 9th March at the Bombo Barracks Ground. Meanwhile, Gaddafi FC will host NEC FC at the Gaddafi Arena on the same day.
