Gudie Leisure Farm, along with its partners, has today (Thursday) launched the Women’s Information Highway, a high-impact event aimed at empowering women with strategic information and critical connections essential for their economic advancement.

Organized under the theme “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” the event will feature several strategic partners and mentors from diverse backgrounds highlighting various opportunities. It is being celebrated in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day.

Scheduled for March 8 at the farm premises in Najjera, partners including Care International, DFCU Bank, UN Women, PSFU, and the Bank of Uganda hope that through the various opportunities that will be presented at this event, women can leverage best practices to impact themselves, their families, and communities positively.

Speaking at the launch, Prof. Naiga Gudula, the founder of Gudie Leisure Farm, emphasized the significant contribution of women leaders to the positive transformation of communities and the country. She expressed excitement about hosting an event expected to attract over 300 powerful women.

“The Women’s Information Highway is a comprehensive suite of information that women need to blossom and make a strategic contribution in their lifetime while impacting communities. Hosting such an event is indeed a success,” Prof. Gudula highlighted.

She also noted that although Uganda is committed to women’s empowerment, many women have yet to maximize existing opportunities to accelerate their personal, professional, and economic growth, which is also a driving force behind this event.

“The highway will expose women to how they can formalize their businesses, access business financing instruments, obtain market access information, and explore investments that deliver sustainable and secure passive income, among others,” she further asserted.

Yossa Immaculate Daisy, Senior Initiative Manager of the CASCADE project at CARE Uganda, acknowledged the progress made by women and girls in Uganda but stressed that there is still a long journey ahead for them to realize their full potential. She urged women to join discussions on navigating challenges and working together to overcome them.

“We are pleased to partner in this notable cause of the women’s event, during which many women and girls will be transformed with the acquired information, learning how to fish and not be fished for,” Ms. Daisy asserted.

She also promised to share some of their organization’s initiatives in program areas such as climate justice, livelihood, gender justice, and humanitarian efforts.

Ruth Asasira, Head of Women in Business at DFCU Bank, highlighted Uganda’s leading position in women entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa, with over 38% women entrepreneurs. However, she noted a low credit portfolio allocated to them in regulated institutions. She urged growth-ready business and corporate women to participate, as exciting products would be shared.

The event partners later called on the government to involve women in meaningful participation and urged them to do more in developing the nation’s mothers.
