Kenya continues to be a trailblazer in Africa and globally in climate action, with a strong emphasis on transitioning to green and clean energy.

This commitment was highlighted at the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) 9th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency, held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, and attended by key stakeholders in the energy sector.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, representing President William Ruto, opened the conference and emphasized Kenya’s strides towards achieving 100% green and clean energy.

He noted that the country’s efforts align with Kenya’s Vision 2030, the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which all underscore the importance of sustainable development.

“Kenya continues to lead Africa and the globe in Climate Action through accelerated investment in various initiatives- key among them- transition to Green and Clean Energy. While this is important, blending efficiency and conservation of energy is central to delivering more goods and services with less power as we march towards 100% green and clean transition as underscored by Kenya’s Vision 2030, Agenda 2030 of the UN and Agenda 2063 of the African Union,’ Gachagua said.

The international forum provided a platform for energy sector actors to discuss strategies for driving investment in energy efficiency.

Participants explored solid steps on policy, funding, and other enabling adjustments necessary to enhance proficiency, which also promotes climate resilience and adaptability.

“It was a pleasure opening and participating in the International Energy Agency’s 9th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency today at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi. The international forum is an opportunity for the actors in the Energy Sector to have a conversation on driving investment in energy efficiency through identifying and making solid steps on policy, funding and other key enabling adjustments to realize proficiency, that also promotes Climate Resilience and Adaptability,” the DP said.

Gachagua extended gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, led by Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, and its respective agencies for organizing the impactful event.

The conference is expected to catalyze further advancements in energy efficiency, contributing to Kenya’s and the region’s sustainable development goals.

Kenya’s efforts in green energy are part of a broader strategy to not only meet its own energy needs sustainably but also to position itself as a leader in the global fight against climate change.

The country has already made significant progress with investments in renewable energy sources such as geothermal, wind, and solar power, and continues to develop policies that encourage energy conservation and efficiency.

Alex Wachira, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Energy, highlighted the significance of hosting over 600 delegates from more than 50 countries.

“Kenya is hosting over 600 delegates from over 50 countries, and I believe such conferences are a good opportunity to create collaborations amongst countries that have similar energy efficiency visions.

He emphasized that this gathering presents a valuable opportunity to foster collaborations among nations sharing similar visions for energy efficiency.
