Kyetume FC has been relegated from the FUFA Big League following a 1-0 defeat to Mbale Heroes on Sunday at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.

The sole goal of the match was scored by Daniel Shabena in the 27th minute, sealing Kyetume’s fate.

With this loss, Kyetume remains on 24 points after 26 matches, leaving them unable to escape the bottom four positions with only one game remaining in the season.

The club joins the relegation list alongside Ndejje University, who withdrew from the competition after the first round, Jinja North United, and Young Elephant, both of whom were relegated after the previous matchday.

Kyetume’s season saw them secure five wins against Kiyinda Boys, Young Elephant, Kataka (boardroom decision), Kaaro Karungi, and Booma, with the victory over Booma being their only win in the second round.

Their remaining game will be against Blacks Power.

This relegation marks a significant downturn for Kyetume, who were competing in Uganda’s top-flight football just three seasons ago.

Their promotion to the Uganda Premier League in the 2021/22 season was short-lived, as they were excluded before the season commenced due to failure to meet the FUFA Club Licensing requirements.

The demotion to the Regional League is a heavy blow for Kyetume and football in the Mukono region.
